Introducing

Cloudberry Outdoor Play and Education Centre

Demonstrating by Doing

Cloudberry Outdoor Play and Education Centre respectfully acknowledges the Island of Ktaqamkuk, the land on which we gather, work, and play as the ancestral and unceded homelands of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq. We would also like to recognize the Innu of Nitassinan and the Inuit of Nunatukavut and Nunatsiavut.

We also acknowledge that the O’Brien Farm holds significant meaning to the history of Newfoundland heritage particularly to the Irish diaspora, and cultural development of Newfoundland farming and food security.

Our Organization

The Cloudberry Outdoor Play and Education Centre exists to operate play-based, outdoor learning programs for children and families. The learning occurs through experiences provided by the site and by the educator(s). In each session, children experience aspects of resilience, problem-solving, teamwork, muscle development and social and environmental sciences.

In the fall of 2024 Cloudberry’s programs transitioned to a non-profit organization managed by a board of directors composed of non-profit leaders, former staff, current parents and community sector representatives. The mission of this newly formed organization is to promote outdoor play, supporting families in outdoor play and learning and supporting educators in offering high quality outdoor play.

Our Forest School

Forest School is an educational approach that supports children and families in connecting to the natural environment through authentic play based experiences. By being on the land through four seasons throughout their childhood children develop an appreciation for the natural cycles of the environment, becoming long-term stewards of the land.

Play to us is defined as voluntary, intrinsically motivated and self-directed allowing children to explore their needs and interests in a timeframe and style that works for them.

Play based learning means educators respond to the children's play and interests.
